October Meeting

Our speaker this month was Malcolm Shennon, a retired garden designer, who gave a witty and entertaining talk, with slides, entitled "Reliable Herbaceous Perennials".He maintains that evergreen content in the garden is most important as it provides colour all the year round. Looking at gardens which are open to the public can give ideas for planting schemes which can be adapted to suit your own garden. Plants, like many other things, go in and out of fashion, at the moment Dahlias and ferns are in fashion. Two of the tips he gave were that Hellebores benefit from having all foliage removed about Christmas time and Agapanthus do better in open ground rather than pot bound in pots. The talk ended with a lively question time.
