"A quart in a pint pot" was the talk given at the May meeting by Peter
Pitman ably assisted by his wife Jill. They hold a National Collection of hybrid
and specie Penstemons, approximately 200 named varieties. The slideshow
started with a short history of Portland, where they live, and included
pictures of their garden throughout the year, and projects they have done or are
in the process of completing. Penstemons came originally from North America and
are extremely hardy. They should be cut right back in April but never
covered with a mulch. This was an entertaining talk from two people who
obviously enjoy gardening. Their garden is open under the National Gardens
Scheme.
The Flower of the month competition was won by Josie Rigler with this Azalea.
The Plant Sale and Coffee Morning on 22nd May raised £516 towards the Society's annual expenses. Thanks to Margaret Keogh whose plant sales made £377, all the helpers and to our supporters.
Date of next meeting :- Wednesday 13th June - Evening outing Members
only.
