It being April, the fuchsia cuttings prepared
by Mrs Margaret Keogh were available for members to grow on and
then bring back the resultant plants to be judged at the October
meeting.
This month's speaker was David Boag, a
Wildlife Photographer who lives in Blandford. He has been interested in
Natural History since childhood and began his photography career 40years
ago. His first project was a study of the behavioural activities of the
Kingfisher, which resulted in the publication of a book. Since then he
has worked on many more projects and published many books and DVD's,
some of which were available for sale at the meeting. One of his
commissions was to photograph the wildlife of a Somerset Quarry which
he said turned out to be a fascinating project. This lead to him being
commissioned by Aggregate Industries to produce a photographic record of
some of their working Quarries - 87 in all - many in the USA. The
introduction of Digital Cameras has made the taking of good photographs
that much easier and less time consuming, with the result that there are
about 600 wildlife photographers at present, whereas, when David
started he was one of six!! Margaret Keogh thanked him for his very
informative talk and superb photographs.
Flower of the month competition was won by Jan Ravensdale with this narcissus.
Date of next meeting:- Wednesday 8th May @7.30pm when the speaker will be Bryan Madders on Dahlias and Chrysanthemums.
Dates for the Diary:- Coffee morning and Plant Sale Tuesday 21st May
10-12noon.
